Create is to live twice

Johanne Tremblay - Painter - Self-taught, born in Montreal in 1957

Artistic approach

As far as I can remember, I have always been the darling of my art teachers.

The summers in the countryside, far from the city, close to nature and the great outdoors inspired me. This solitude, that belonged only to me, made tons of ideas germinate. My first creations were fashioned from leaves and pieces of wood.

These moments of innocent discoveries, combined with the artistic influence of my father, my loves, in my many travels and the birth of my only daughter, made emerge the artist I am today.

Again and again as passionate creation.

Self-taught as I watched my father work child, I draw my inspiration from this inherited curiosity, this desire for free expression and the ever-changing nature, vistas around me.

My work brings me to settle for long periods in foreign cities.

Hong Kong to Singapore from Macao to Australia and finally the United States. They educate my work and my artistic path.

Asia remains the area most striking and most inspiring when I had the opportunity to settle. A simple dip in the memories inspires me wisdom and meditation. For its part, the Nevada desert mark my works with its calm and serenity.

2009 was the turning point where I traded my brushes to rags, spatula and my fingers. And this is where, as I was looking depths, textures and direct contact with the material that was born my passion for the abstract. This new passion is liberating and again and again I see endless possibilities.

That each of my works emerges always depends on who looks at it.
